Butcher Shop

In the spring of 2018 we built the butcher shop. The butcher shop was another way were able to create jobs.

Nearly all of the chickens grown in Cap Haitien are sold live. Our intent was to provide a product that didn’t currently exist in the local markets which was quality frozen, cut up chicken.

Adding value to our existing products by way of a butcher shop only made sense when we were planning New Roots. We employ mostly men on the farm due to the physical nature of the job. The butcher shop allows us to hire almost exclusively women. It has taken a few years but they operate like a well oiled machine, processing 150 birds in just a few hours.

We have the capacity to butcher about 3,000 birds per month. We are currently a ways from that point, butchering about 1,000 per month.

In 2019 we expanded to butcher shop to add in a break room, and a walk in cooler and freezer.

The butcher shop is mostly solar powered with a backup generator.
